Microsoft Restores “From” option in Outlook
Last Friday there was an incident affecting Outlook for users who were on the Insiders Preview ring of Office Updates.
Within Outlook, there’s the option to change who the email is sent from, useful for users who have shared mailboxes.
Impacted users were unable to change this, presenting them with a grey box and a From button which just did not want to work.
The issue reportedly started on Thursday evening and was finally repaired on Sunday, with most users in the UK having the functionality restored this morning.
Office Insider is a fast-track update option for users who are on the lookout for new features before others. However, while this may deliver updates more frequently, they can be unstable at times. This should not be used in production environments or with users who are not tech-savvy.
So what are the options?
The Monthly channel is the default update method for Office 365 versions of Microsoft Office. This provides users with updates on a monthly basis. The other option is the Semi-Annual channel which updates twice per year with major changes.
The importance of Office Updates
Office updates usually:
- Provide users with security updates
- Improve functionality (ignore above)
- Fix known crashes
You can tell if your version of Office is up to date (as well as check which update channel you are on) by:
- Opening any Office Application
- Clicking File > Office Account
