Frequently Asked Questions

Microsoft 365 is a powerful productivity platform which includes email, software, and file storage solutions – all under one package.

Microsoft 365 is a subscription product, charged on a monthly basis. Microsoft 365 is also charged on a per user basis. For every person that requires access to a Microsoft 365 service, a license is required.

Yes, within any given tenant, you can have a mixture of licenses depending on your business needs. Please contact us if you need advice.

If you are using the software for business or revenue generating purposes, then it would be potentially against the terms and conditions of the Microsoft 365 Family package if you were audited by Microsoft. Also, the protections in place for Business are not the same as for a Home user. If you are in any doubt, please contact us.

Microsoft Outlook is an email client, software which is used for reading and sending emails. It does not, however, provide storage for those emails on the internet. Microsoft’s email hosting solution is called Microsoft Exchange which provides up to 50GB of storage space for your emails. You are not required to use Exchange as part of Microsoft 365 and SupportWise can advise where needed.

Microsoft 365 is a subscription product, therefore, there is not an option for an outright purchase. There are yearly payment plans rather than monthly but there is no cost difference between a monthly and yearly subscription.

Previously, you had to purchase Microsoft Office, Email Storage, File Storage and other productivity services separately and then purchase them all again when a new version came out.

An example of this for businesses was Microsoft Office 2016 to 2019. The cost of each of these softwares was approx. £200 each and didn’t include email or file storage – it was purely the Office applications.

Under the subscription model, you pay a flat monthly fee and receive the upgrades whenever they are available without having to pay anything more. Also, the services available are great value for money given everything which is included.
